FSL Projects Ltd provided a post contract QS role on this £4.3m new build GP surgery. Let under a traditional contract, the project included the construction of 25 GP consultation rooms, associated nursing facilities and pharmacy. The facility also included an underground staff car park and a pumped drainage system.
We inherited the project which was procured under a traditional contract, which we believed was flawed. Ideally, with the nature of the works we believe a D&B contract would have been a better route to manage the clients wish. Coupled with this, a nominal contingency was available to the client, one that was less than we would have recommended.
Through proactive cost management we were able to negotiate the final account within the financial constraints of the client. We managed this through supporting the client with funding requests from NHS England and savings made by the client on fitting out the surgery. Overall, the project was delivered within the available budget for the client, with the final account agreed before practical completion.
